Turning 49 was a good thing. 7 is my “lucky” number so I figured 7 X 7 had to be a great year. So far, it has been pretty amazing. The plans I originally had for this year are not panning out as I thought. I was going to “get in shape” by my 50th birthday (my jubilee year). That hasn’t happened yet. Christmas baking, especially my homemade peanut butter fudge topped with my daughter’s chocolate was more often eaten by our family, than shipped out for gifts. I procrastinated on organizing the house (another goal). I wanted to make an audio recording of my newest children’s story. Nope.
What I have done this year is make connections in a new way. Instead of getting so many “things” done, I’ve actually been digging for gold and finding treasure in friendships. Some are my students. Some are my own family. One is an unexpected find… an old friend that I never really knew until now. I am grateful for these gifts! You know, there are only a few things you can take to heaven with you. Your life, your faith, your good works, and friends you bring along. I do not know that all my friends will join me there, but I am hopeful. I trust that God is able to communicate His love and reality to them.
Where truth has been the heartbeat of my life, love has become my song.
None of us know how long we have on this planet. But every moment, I intend to love without fear and live without regret. Thank You, God for the gift of friendships.
